The Great Debate Final

On Thursday 24 September, students from Years 9 and 10 were invited to take part in the final round of Cheltenham Educational Partnership's (CEP) Great Debate, held at Bournside School.

Back in May, students from four schools took part in a fun introduction session, developing the skills and techniques which support taking part in a debate. The session was engaging and interactive, allowing students to practice on a range of topics from silly to serious. Last week's session, themed The AI Future and supported by Cheltenham Festivals, welcomed two guest speakers, Charlie (Cyber apprentice for Amazon Web Services), and Max (Cyber security apprentice at Seven Trent Water), who then went on to judge the debating contests.

The Pate's team comprising Charlton and Ellie (Yr 10) and Dhruvi and Yuvan (Yr 9) opposed Bournside on the motion that AI will enhance our creativity.  Whilst we did not win this competition, our students should be commended on their depth and breadth of research and persuasion.

Charlton says,
“It was great to get the opportunity to debate the complex era-defining issue of AI with talented students from other Cheltenham schools. It was a fun experience I'd recommend to anyone!”

Our thanks to Bournside School and the CEP for organising this event.
