Alana's Art in Royal Academy Show

Congratulations to Year 9 artist Alana, whose embroidery piece My Cochlear Implants has been selected for the Royal Academy’s Young Artists’ Online Summer Show. Now in its eighth year, the Young Artists' Summer Show is a free, open submission exhibition for students aged 4–18 studying in the UK. Artworks are judged by a panel of artists and arts professionals, with selected artworks displayed online and on-site at the Royal Academy of Arts.
Alana, who originally created this piece for our House Art competition, describes her work,
"My Cochlear Implants have changed my life in many ways. I am deaf and can't hear anything at all without them. With them, however, I can enjoy life to the full - taking part in all the activities I love... drama productions, listening to the beautiful sounds of nature, playing clarinet in orchestras and even competing in synchronised swimming in time to music and upside down in the water (with my processors in special waterproof cases)! This artwork sums up the connection and identity my cochlears implants give me through access to sound."
