FameLab Academy 2024

FameLab Academy is a competition run across the South-West of England in partnership with Cheltenham Festivals, promoting science communication in schools.

All of our Year 9 students were involved in this competition and delivered a two minute presentation in their science classes about a science topic of their choice. Students were assessed on their ability to present using the ‘three Cs’ – Clarity, Charisma and Content.

The best two students from each class then went forward to an in-school Final, hosted in our Performing Arts Building on the 5 March.  This time presenting for three minutes in front of a panel of judges who asked questions and marked against the three Cs. The panel included Dr Richardson, Ms Eliška Jandová, Runner-up of the adult FameLab Europe and Ms Jenna Vale, Head of Midwifery from Gloucestershire NHS. The Final was watched by all of Year 9, who also voted on each performance.

Well done to class Finalists Rudra, Parth, Shreya, Mahin, Muhammad, Annabelle, Vrishni, Griff, Olivia, and Daisy for your robust performances, and thank you to Neil who hosted the event with great charisma.

Congratulations to the Winner of Pate’s Final, Vrishni, who – thanks to Cheltenham Festivals’ partnership with the British Science Association – achieved a Bronze CREST award , received a Materclass in Science Communication and entry through to the Regional Final on 21 March.

Vrishni’s fascinating talk about sugar and the effect it has on our hormones impressed the judges, who named Vrishni Runner-up of the afternoon session.  Well  done Vrishni – a fantastic achievement!
