Year 7 September 2024 Entry

Open Mornings will take place on Tuesday 28th February, Tuesday 28th March, Monday 26th June and Thursday 29th June 2023. Please book online!

The test provider for the entrance test for entry into September 2024 will be GL Assessment. For familiarisation material, please see their website – GL Familiarisation Material.

Since 11+ tests vary from one area to another, it’s important to note that the free familiarisation materials are generic and may differ from your own test’s exact specifications.  These differences may include the length of papers, the types of questions covered, and/or the level of difficulty.

Appeals

Appeal application form

Parents whose child has applied to be admitted to the School but has not been offered a place, either in Year 7 or any other year group, are entitled to appeal against that decision to an independent Appeals Panel.

Year 7 Appeals as part of the main admissions process.

Parents wishing to appeal must register for their appeal, ahead of the deadline, by submitting an Appeals Registration form from this page of the website.

If the child does not have a test rank parents will also need to register for an Appeals Test at the same time as registering an appeal – this should be indicated on the Appeals Registration Form. The School will make arrangements for an Appeals Test in April and will thereafter convene an independent panel to hear all appeals together as quickly as possible thereafter.

If your child has not been successful in gaining a place at Pate’s Grammar School for entry in Year 7 in September 2023, you do have a statutory right to appeal before an Independent Admissions Appeal panel. Additionally, if you believe extenuating circumstances may have affected your child’s performance on the day of the test this may be grounds for your appeal. Reasons might be medical, or a recent family bereavement, for example. However, having a sibling at the school, or transport issues, or extra-curricular achievements, are not considered sufficient grounds for appeal. Please contact Yvonne Shelmerdine (yshelmerdine@patesgs.org) to request an Appeal Information pack. This will be sent to you after 1st March 2023.

Year 7 Appeals Timeline Information:

Wednesday 26th April 2023 (3pm) – Deadline for submitting the Appeal registration form back to Pate’s Grammar School.

Friday 28th April 2023 (3pm) – Deadline for submitting any additional evidence for your appeal.

Appeal Hearings will take place in May, with exact dates to be confirmed nearer the time.

In-Year Applications

Parents should contact the School’s Admissions Officer if they would like their child to be considered for admission. Appeals for entry into years 8-11 will be arranged as necessary.

To lodge an appeal for your child, please download the Appeal Registration Form from this page of our website. Completed forms should be emailed to Mr Stephen Locke – slocke@patesgs.org, or posted to Pate’s Grammar School, Princess Elizabeth Way, Cheltenham, GL51 0HG.
